Notice of RaceORGANIZING AUTHORITY: New London Sailfest Committee and the Downtown New London AssociationPURPOSE To celebrate the on-going maritime traditions of New London and its connections to the sea. 2008 is also a special celebration year to recognize the 175th anniversary of the US Custom House, the 25th anniversary of the New London Maritime Society and the 75th anniversary of Thames Yacht Club. RULES The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the rules of participating one-design classes and the rules of PHRF-LIS. This is a Category A event. ENTRIES The event is open to all PHRF eligible boats, spinnaker and non-spinnaker and Ensigns. Boats without a PHRF rating will be assigned one. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE. Entries should be received by Thursday, July 10th. SCHEDULE First Warning will be at 1130. There will be a parade of participating boats commencing at 1030 in the basin off Waterfront Park. Anticipate that an announcer will recognize each boat as it passes near the Custom House Pier. An awards ceremony will be held under the tent in the Courtyard at the Custom House Maritime Museum (entry off Water Street) commencing at 1600. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions and Scratch Sheets will be available from the Committee Boat.
START/FINISH Starting and Finishing lines will be established at the South-East corner of Anchorage “A” outside Shaw Cove. COURSE From the start to Cormorant Rock Can “7” off Ocean Beach, leaving to port; thence to Channel Marker “1” at the New London Harbor Entrance, leaving to port; thence to Vixen Ledge Buoy “VL 28”, leaving to port, thence to the finish. See Small Craft Chart 12372. VHF RADIOS All participating boats should have a VHF-FM radio with the ability to communicate on Channel 72. PRIZES Suitable trophies will be presented at the Awards Ceremony by the Mayor of New London. DISCLAIMER Competitors participate in this race entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race.
